2015 Year In Review – Patric Ciervo of Patric Writes Sketches and Until Pluto

This week Philly Sketchfest will be taking a look back at the year 2015 through the eyes of the writers, performers, directors and producers that make sketch comedy in Philadelphia a reality. Patric Ciervo is making it known that he writes sketch comedy. No, not just because the name of his group is Patric Writes Sketches, although that does help. Rather, Patric is carrying the weight of writing material for two distinctly different sketch groups; the aforementioned Patric Writes Sketches and Until Pluto, a narrative-driven, sketch comedy collaboration with writer/performer Peter Gerbron. It’s also proving quite successful for Patric. This year, Patric Writes Sketches was accepted and performed at NYC Sketchfest at The People’s Improv Theater (The PIT) and Until Pluto performed two new shows of brand new material; a sketch murder-mystery-who-done-it entitled, ‘Bill Melchior Is Dead’ at PHIT and a rewriting of history in ‘Still Not A Better World’ as part of Philly Sketchfest Presents. Patric’s dedication to the craft of sketch comedy is seen not only in his work ethic and output, but also in his support of the entire Philadelphia comedy community. His commitment is admired by his peers and his comedy is being enjoyed by audiences both in and outside of Philadelphia. Don’t miss your opportunity to see both of Patric’s sketch groups this Friday night, on New Year’s Day, when they perform their first sketches of 2016 at our Sketch Hangover! Please enjoy Patric’s 2015 sketch year in review…

Q & A – Cynthia Marie of “And Stay Out – The Art of Overstaying Your Welcome” a National Sketch Writing Month Anthology

In three short weeks, Philadelphia-based writer and performer Cynthia Marie will be updating her artist bio to Wisconsin-based writer and performer. That’s right, as far as she’s concerned it’s ‘good-bye forever, Philadelphia!’ But before she departs, Cynthia is putting up one final show entitled, ‘And Stay Out – The Art Of Overstaying Your Welcome’, an anthology of sketch comedy inspired and written for National Sketch Writing Month (which challenges comedy writers to write a new sketch every day for thirty consecutive days). Featuring performances from Quinton Alexander, Katie Cwirko, Andrea Duffy, Kristopher Hodge and Cynthia Marie, this one-night only event takes place this Friday night at 10:30pm as part of Philly Sketchfest Presents December showcase with sketch group, Until Pluto and stand-up comedian, Alex Pearlman. Earlier this week, we spoke with Cynthia Marie to talk about her influences, writing a new sketch every day for 30 days and leaving Philadelphia for Wisconsin…

Sketch Comedy in Philadelphia – December 14th through December 20th

This week is so full of sketch comedy shows in Philadelphia that it’s almost as if – Christmas came early/Hanukkah was extended/the Krampus didn’t bite off the appendages of your misbehaving child – this year. But before you get upset that I only noted the Christian, Jewish and Pagen gift giving holidays as metaphors… What’s that? It’s too late and you’re already upset? Okay, then we’ll just get to this week’s listings of sketch comedy in Philadelphia which features our own monthly Philly Sketchfest Presents showcases at The Adrienne Theater Playground including House of Solitude’s ‘Home for the Holidays’ featuring The Wire Mothers and host Jake Mattera at 8:30pm as well as Until Pluto’s “…Still Not A Better World” featuring Cynthia Marie’s Farewell Show and host Alex Pearlman at 10:00pm.
